Sopa Maasai

Words cannot come even close to describing my experience this week with the Maasai tribe. I am sitting at an internet cafe and only have a couple of minutes to write so for now I shall let my pictures tell it all.. I leave for Western Kenya (Bungoma) tomorrow and then off to Uganda after that to raft the mighty Nile. My trip has been so life altering so far and I cannot wait to share what the Lord is doing through these people. Bye for now and God Bless.

Dressing the Part

The weather is beautiful here with a mist ever now and then. This week has been a lil crazy but a lot of fun running around with all these young boys. Every week all the cabins compete for a metal called the "mountain shield" to put on your camp necklace. This award pretty much sums up the loudest group in chants, the cleanest cabin, and all around best cabin. This week has been pretty funny because our boys are in the middle of the "girl" stage. Every chance that they get they try and swoo the ladies with their 10 year old charm. We have had poems, flowers, candy, and even songs written for the girls.

Last night I had the privilege of hosting campers got talent with a friend of mine as Ken and Barby. Our whole story line was how High School Musical was overtaking our scene and as much as we bashed them I was still in love with Troy Bolton. The girls ate it up and we had a blast with it. Going back to my guys swooing the ladies, we most def won the whole thing with a rendition of Jonas Brothers "Burning Up" dedicated to a certain group of gals of course ha.






While the older campers were out camping the Jr. camp got to have our very own fiesta. The mustache finally came out and a lot of the guys touched em up with a lil die to make them extra dirty. It was a lot of fun teaching the boys how to salsa with the gals.




For the next 3 weeks I am going to be going into different parts of Western Kenya doing different vacation Bible Schools, AIDS care distributions, and play a lot of soccer with the locals. I am so excited to see the rural part of Africa and really get to fall in love with these kids.

So the WORLD CUP starts today and it is so hard to be so close but be so far. South Africa plays tonight and hopefully we are going to get to watch a little bit of it. Tomorrow the U.S plays England and we are going to be in Nairobi for the match. A lot of the guys have talked about going to this soccer place in the middle of the town and watching it. Don't you worry I am going to be decked out in my U.S gear.

O how the time has flown by already

Wow this week has flown by. I have been in Africa for 2 weeks now and it only seems like a couple of days.. I was the counselor for the oldest guys group this week and most of our activities put us outside of camp. It has been so much fun getting to know all of my guys and it was sad to see them leave this morning. We get a new group of guys tomorrow and I just found out that I am the counselor of the youngest group of guys.. A little change never hurt anyone ha I am super pumped to turn everything into a game and act all goofy with them. We have brought a lot of American candy over here and they go crazy for it. After a good week without the sweets it is quite sad how us counselors have to sneak a couple of pieces in as well..I have many stories to tell but so little time to write. I will try and let the pictures tell a lot of the fun we are having.. We leave for Uganda next week and I am excited to get experience the rural Africa. Word through the grapevine is that we are going to get to play a Uganda High School guys soccer team. Africans vs. Muzungus (Swahili for White Person). I am excited to see how the Lord can really bring glory to his name through something like soccer. I will update when I can, but I miss everyone back home and hope all is going well. This was my life this week.. We spent every minute of every day with this group and the bonds we made were so strong. That is the Tana river behind us, and as dirty as it looks surprisingly it was really clean and refreshing.

On our way to go rock climbing we ran into some pretty sweet little Giants. You see them in zoos and it is really cool but to see them in the wild really throws a whole new perspective on things..super rad.

Camps Got Talent.. Took the Mario theme and made a pretty funny skit out of it.. Costumes just make life a lot more fun

Paintballing in Africa? Two words you normally do not put together. It was a lot of fun, especially with our sweet jump suits we got to throw on

So I introduced the "feeling the vibe" move to camp and in the end got made fun of a little bit.. It was pretty entertaining to say the least



Got a treat this afternoon as we ate lunch.. These tribal dancers could sure put on a pretty sweet show

Summit Fires.. This has been a camp tradition since the beginning.. real cool to see the rich tradition of Camp Blue Sky first hand. After the fun and games we closed the night with a great praise and worship time under the amazing African stars

LAST BUT NOT LEAST.. what everyone has been waiting for.. currently holding down first place in the dirtiest mustache competition.. ha every Tuesday we have a huge fiesta at camp and all of the guys are trying to grown the "sickest" looking mustache possible.. 5 days and counting
